Concert biography
Katy Hill, soprano, studied music as a choral scholar at Cambridge before embarking upon a varied and vibrant career performing and recording with leading ensembles that include The Sixteen, The Monteverdi Choir, the Tallis Scholars, London Voices and Tenebrae. She has performed around the globe, working with eminent musicians that include Steve Reich, Sir James MacMillan, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Richard Hickox, Hanz Zimmer, Sir Colin Davis and Marin Alsop. She is proud to be a member of The Sixteen, having first sung with the group in 2007.
Past highlights have included Bizet’s Carmen in the Toreador’s home town of Granada, Bach in St Thomas’, Leipzig, Macmillan’s Stabat Mater from The Sistine Chapel with The Sixteen, Fauré’s Requiem with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and Handel’s Dixit Dominus for King Charles in Buckingham Palace. Katy’s vocals can be found on numerous film soundtracks that include recent releases such as Wonka, The Little Mermaid, Barbie, and the latest Marvel, Starwars, Bond and Harry Potter films. Occasional forays into the world of opera have been at Covent Garden (Gluck Orpheo), the Opéra Comique in Paris (Bizet’s Carmen and Weber’s Der Freischutz), Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo at the Aix en Provence Festival, and most recently as a witch in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas at The Grange, Hampshire with The Sixteen last Summer.
